Migrating from Gmail to Google Apps

A common scenario we've been seeing is the need to migrate accounts from Gmail to Google Apps.  Fortunately, with MoveMyMail, this is a breeze.

Larry owns a car towing company called Tow-Mo.  He just successfully migrated his Gmail account [email protected] to [email protected] using MoveMyMail.  This is what he suggests:

1.  Ensure that your Google Apps account is functioning

Send yourself a test email (preferably from a non-Google address).  If you don't receive the email, check that your MX records are set correctly using a utility like this.  Your MX records may be incorrect or have not yet propagated the internet; this could take 24 hours or more (but usually just an hour or two).

2.  Enable mail forwarding from your Gmail account to your Google Apps account

This allows all new email to your old Gmail account to end up in your Google Apps account so you don't miss anything.  You may also want to set up an autoresponse so senders are aware of your new address.

3.  Enable IMAP on your Gmail and Google Apps accounts

4.  Move your mail!
